The event takes place at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
On your marks, get set, race. Spartan Middle East has announced that it will host the region’s first indoor Spartan City race. Taking place on 20 September at Etihad Arena, Abu Dhabi, it offers a one-of-a-kind obstacle course. If you’d like to test your strength, here’s what you need to know.
Spartan City is supported by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and aims to make sport more accessible. The event is designed to be welcoming to all abilities, while still offering a mental and physical challenge. So, take your pick from experiences created for beginners, children, young athletes, and adults.

The Spartan City race’s tagline is “No days off.” The event is open to participants aged 14 years and above, and features a 3-kilometre course with 15 signature Spartan obstacles. There is also a one-kilometre course for children aged four to six, a 1.5-kilometre course for those aged seven to nine, and a three-kilometre course for those aged nine to 14.
If you’re worried about getting sweaty, don’t be – the Spartan City race takes place almost entirely indoors in air-conditioned spaces – it is the UAE, after all. Etihad Arena, typically used to hosting celebrities, will welcome this unique sporting event indoors for the very first time in the region. Plus, certain parts of the race will still take place outdoors.
If you complete the Spartan City race, you’ll be rewarded. Cross the finish line and you’ll receive a banana, a Spartan T-shirt, and a medal. Registration is open now.
