Al Seef, Al Wathba and Neom all make appearances in the Bollywood blockbuster.
If you're a fan of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, you've probably already watched his latest cinematic venture, Dunki. Released in theatres across the world on 21 December, this film takes viewers on a thrilling ride filled with drama, romance, and stunning visuals. What makes Dunki even more exciting is the fact that it features breathtaking scenes shot in the vibrant landscapes of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
The UAE — particularly Dubai — marks a pivotal plot in Dunki’s storyline. The film features the historic Al Seef are with views of the Burj Khalifa in the background. The juxtaposition of modernity and tradition in this particular location adds a unique flavour to the film.
Abu Dhabi, with its diverse landscapes, also plays a crucial role in Dunki. One standout spot is Al Wathba, home to the Wathba Fossil Dunes. The vast desert expanse provides a mesmerising setting, enhancing the visual appeal of the movie.
Dunki extends its visual splendour to Saudi Arabia, showcasing both the modern and historical facets of the country. Neom, a futuristic city in the making, serves as one of the film's shooting locations. Notably, Neom now boasts a full-fledged production facility, making it an emerging hub for the film industry.
Jeddah also plays a pivotal role in the film. Viewers are treated to glimpses of Jeddah's King Abdulaziz International Airport, alongside the UNESCO World Heritage site of Al Balad, with its enchanting doors. The Jeddah police station and Jeddah Port also make appearances.
Shah Rukh Khan said: “There’s nothing more satisfying than completing a shooting schedule, as is Dunki in Saudi. Thank you for giving us such spectacular locations and the warm hospitality.”
He then headed to the Red Sea Film Festival in 2022, where he reiterated his appreciation for the Kingdom. “We have been talking about the hospitality, the warmth, the goodness and the love that has been showered upon us. It’s our first trip to the Kingdom of Saudi,” he commented. “We all wait with bated breath because cinema has opened up here in Saudi Arabia. You have so many new stories to tell, and we look forward to being of help in any which way we can.” The actor was later also spotted performing Umrah in Makkah.
