The Malkai covers the dunes, farm and mountains.

The Malkai is bringing a new hospitality concept to Oman. Launching in 2026, guests are invited to embark on an immersive journey across three unique tented camps. The experience combines beauty, culture, heritage and nature.

The Malkai is a family-owned venture, and is led by the founders of The Chedi Muscat. The experience promises an exciting exploration of Oman. The locations include the coastal farmlands of Barkaa near Muscat, the dramatic Al Hajar mountains, and the dunes of Sharqiyah Sands.

Guests will travel in a fully equipped Land Rover Defender with their own Murshid – a guide, friend, and philosopher. Each journey lasts from four to ten nights, with experiences tailored to suit your preferences. The experiences combine tranquillity with adventure, including exclusive access to a private island in the Al Dimaniyat archipelago, which is a protected marine reserve famed for coral reefs, turtles and whale sharks.

The Malkai

Sustainability is at the heart of The Malkai, which incorporates eco-conscious practices. The architecture has been crafted by Singaporean studio, Unscripted Design. The design combines traditional Omani elements, from mashrabiya screens to wind towers, with modern luxury. Marcus Barnett Studio is behind the landscaping, which pays homage to Oman’s agricultural heritage. The development features fruit trees and herbs, which support a farm-to-fork dining experience.

The Malkai

The Malkai includes 15 tented Pavilion Suites. Drawing inspiration from traditional Bedouin tents, it combines natural materials like Omani marble and palm resin with spacious, elegant living spaces. Guests can enjoy authentic Omani cuisine, wellness therapies inspired by ancient traditions, and a range of outdoor activities. Take your pick from trekking, stargazing and sailing.
