Abu Dhabi warns the public against swimming in the ocean.

Dubai is home to amazing animals, from camels to falcons. Now, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has added another to the list. While he was out in Jabal Ali, he spotted an orca (aka a killer whale).

Sheikh Hamdan’s popular Instagram account, @faz3, has over 15.4 million followers. His Instagram bio declares: “Every picture has a story and every story has a moment that I’d love to share with you. Thanks and enjoy.”

An Instagram story posted on Wednesday, 10 May, shows the orca swimming in and out of the sea. Orcas belong to the oceanic dolphin family. Orcas are also one of the largest of the dolphins and powerful predators.

Following the sighting from fishermen on 9 May, Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism has warned the public against swimming in the ocean. Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi shared on Instagram: “A pair of Orcas, also known as killer whales, have been spotted off the coast of Abu Dhabi.

They are among the most well-travelled marine wildlife, adapting to both cooler climates and warm waters.

“Although this sighting is rare, they have been frequently visiting Abu Dhabi waters, which is a testament to the healthy marine life that call Abu Dhabi home. Ocras are usually not a threat to humans, however we urge the public to keep a safe distance when spotting wildlife.”
